Q: Which Shopify exports do I need?

Two CSV files from Shopify admin: Orders (Orders, Export, CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs) and Products (Products, Export). The products file must include the Cost per item column.

Q: What if some products have no cost per item?

Those lines are listed separately under Missing cost and are never counted as losses. Add Cost per item to the variant in Shopify to include them.

How to export from Shopify

Orders: Shopify admin → Orders → Export → CSV for Excel, Numbers, or other spreadsheet programs.

Products: Shopify admin → Products → Export. Keep the “Cost per item” column in the file.

Why this matters

A discount comes out of your margin, not your revenue. On a product with a 40% margin, a 20% code cuts the profit on that sale in half. Stack it with a sale price or an order-wide code and some orders sell below what the product cost you, and Shopify's reports won't point them out.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. Your browser reads the files inside this tab. Nothing is sent to a server, and nothing is kept after you close the tab.

Does it count order-wide discount codes?

Yes. Order-wide codes are spread across the order's products in proportion to price, and line-level discounts stay on their line. Free-shipping codes are not counted as product discounts. Refunded and voided orders are skipped.
